 Is there any information that can be revealed about a Pentax camera by it's serial number? I have a couple of ME Supers that I am curious about. Mainly the date of manufacture or any other data that might be coded into these numbers.

 There is a database project which covers the M42 cameras and there are several forums which can help with those. As yet I have not come across a similiar database for the bayonet cameras. Perhaps someone else on the forum can help.

 I e-mailed Pentax and asked them about the serial numbers on their cameras and lenses. This is their reply...

 The 7-digit serial number serves to identify the camera as a unit only, but does not provide information regarding date or place of manufacture.
 The ME Super was manufactured from 1979-1985, however.
